Express Engine Diagnostics

Double Eagle Consulting has got a possibility of conducting the express-diagnostics of the actual condition of engines D-30ser II and III (a/c Tu-134), independent of service life or number of overhauls. The express-diagnostics is based on the process of measuring the engines' parts rubbing against each other. For the appraisal of the engines' wear condition three oil tests are need (a test after the end each flight day or the engine's test). The methodology is based on a complex usage of unique measuring equipment of latest generation and a computer program "Iznos 1 - 3" ("Wear 1 - 3"), put into operation by Bulletin # 660-BE-G.

In the framework of the Bulletin's operational test, the wear condition of 280 engines of different types was analyzed. During the last two years of operation the ATC Sheremetyvo has registered 19 cases of the engines' in-flight shut down after a warning sign "Chips in oil", "Increased vibration", "Dangerous vibration" or both sings came on simultaneously.

The case study showed that should the wear index had been analyzed, 18 dangerous situations could have been prevented since in all above engines (with the exception of one engine removed due to a false warning sign "Chips in Oil"), the wear index exceeded the norm in 2 - 2,5 times and by over 50% differed from the closest maximum wear figure of other engines. The last circumstance excludes the possibility of a groundless engine's removal.

In the process of the data processing related to the engines' fleet under control, it was identified that out of 14 cases of early engines' removal from operations due to exceeding the products' wear concentration norms, in 8 cases there was a groundless removal due to occasional "deviations" unconnected with the wear condition.

Insufficient knowledge of the engines' wear condition in AMC "Sheremetyevo" has resulted in unjustifiable expenses of $ 250,000 - 300,000$ per year as minimum.

In the face of intensive summer season and bearing in mind the need for upgrading flight safety, Double Eagle Consulting proposes to conduct the express-diagnostics of engines D-30 ser. II and III' wear condition on the aircraft fleet of your company. The approximate cost of the works on the appraisal of 2 engines is $2,400 . The term of fulfilling the work is 2 days after payment.
